open up your games field for all-weather play...
Children want to play team games; football, tennis, basketball, and netball all year round. However traditional school sports fields require a lot of upkeep and are often unusable during the muddiest seasons.
This is where Multi Use Games Areas can help! From as little as 10K you can transform an area into a MUGA pitch creating a safe, all-weather space for multiple sports and game play whatever the time of year.

what our customers say
Batheaston Primary School
the benefits of muga sports pitches
Multi-use games areas can have far-reaching positive effects on your school and pupils. Just some of the benefits of muga construction include:
- Lower maintenance costs (so it often works out as more cost effective than grassy fields)
- The option of shock pads under your play grass for extra absorbency
- Permanent markings for many different sports and games
- The opportunity to enjoy a variety of games all year around due to the synthetic turf surfacing
- May be an effective use of PE and sport premium funding
- The perfect way to transform little-used outdoor spaces.
durable, safe play surfaces
Our sports surfacing provides extra grip for running feet and is much more forgiving on trips and falls than tarmac. This makes our Muga Surfaces perfect for a range of sports and games.
Because we install high quality surfacing on an appropriate base, we are able to offer a 10-year guarantee on all active sports surfaces.
muga fencing and goal end stations
Effective fencing can help to contain games within your MUGA pitch, as well as preventing balls from spinning off into the trees or neighbouring fields!
dbd provides hard wearing fencing and gate solutions in either rigid sports mesh or timber, allowing spectators to keep an eye on games from a safe distance.
We also have a wide range of metal and timber recessed goal end stations to suit your needs.

what to expect from us
The dbd experience starts with an initial discussion to clearly understand your aims for your new playground. Following this, we'll arrange a site visit to get an accurate picture of your outside space.
Within 2-3 weeks, our expert designers will create a proposal for your dream playground. This includes a 3D design and a detailed breakdown of each cost. We will consult with you on this until you are 100% happy with the proposal.
The next step is handing things over to our operations team! They'll ensure all the right materials for your playground are in stock and ready to go.
Then, our installation crew will visit your school at a time which suits you to start the build. All of our installers are DBS checked and experienced in working around the school day.
A multi-use games area (or MUGA) is a versatile designated playground space that can be used for a wide range of different sports, games and fun. It is the perfect space to enjoy team sports such as (but not limited to!) football, hockey, and netball all year round.
- MUGAs are all-weather; the surface is porous and if installed correctly will not flood. They aren’t impacted by constant foot traffic through play enabling the children to play their favourite sports all year round.
- MUGAs are also low maintenance, as they are constructed using an artificial surface which does not need constant mowing or watering – saving the school money which can be used elsewhere.
- Speaking of saving money, a MUGA can also be hired out to the wider community (such as local football teams and clubs) during school holidays and evenings, creating an income stream for your school.
- A dedicated sporting area unrestricted by the temperamental British weather is also a fantastic opportunity to help develop a child's physical fitness and fight childhood obesity - as well as improve their social and cooperation skills.
That depends entirely on what you need, and we will ensure that we discuss all the options with you. However, each of our MUGAs is a bespoke design specific to your requirements and educational needs. For example, do you need 2m high barrier fencing or will spectator height be more appropriate? Would you like Goal End Stations with Basketball Hoops and line markings – there are many available options we can discuss.
The price of a MUGA can vary, depending on your specific requirements. Size and fencing obviously has a significant bearing on cost.
However, they can start from as little as £10,000 and can transform your school by providing a dedicated space for games. If you need help with funding or want to enquire about this option, please bring this up in your first call, or read our detailed blog post.
Once you have booked your call we will discuss your initial requirements and budget. We will then book in a site meeting with our playground consultant so they can explore your needs in more detail, take site measurements and then start the design of your MUGA. The proposal will include a full cost breakdown and a 3D design visualisation, so you know exactly what to expect.
We do complete Maintenance Checks for a number of our customers, but if you would like to do this yourself you will receive a Care Guide with Maintenance Checks with advice and tips to keep your MUGA in its absolute best condition. But should you need us, we’re only a phone call away on 01249 470100.
All our MUGAs are designed with your children’s safety in mind and conform to BS EN 1176-7 the Playground Safety Standard.
We predominantly use our own employed playground installation teams or a small number of pre-approved sub-contractors who work with us on a regular basis. All our installers are fully trained and have completed an Enhanced DBS check. We know how important it is to know exactly who is on your school site and all our installers share our passion for creating fabulous playground spaces.
As with all bespoke projects, this can vary from MUGA to MUGA. We’re happy to work around term time or work within a designated area while school is on – it's completely up to you and what you’re comfortable with. Together, we’ll build a timeframe that works for both parties.
Covid-19 has had a huge impact on all our lives and keeping our employers and customers safe is of upmost importance. We have completed Office, Site and Warehouse Risk Assessments and implemented working procedures to manage and minimise risk. These include our installers working in small cohorts to limit the risk of infection and all our customer meetings are conducted outside, socially distant and including face coverings. We are more than happy to comply with any school-specific requirements you may have, and a copy of our policies are available on request.
