Setting the Scene

dbdplay has a strong relationship Burbage Primary School in Wiltshire, built through a succession of successful playground development projects. Following on from the installation of new all-weather pathways at Burbage by dbdplay, we were asked to put forward our proposals to redevelop an underutilised area of the playground.

The area was linked to the main play area at the school but was unable to be used as the old timber trail was rotten and the bark pathway amongst the trees had become overgrown and full of puddles and trip hazards.

Customer Objectives

The Headteacher, Zoe had a vision to redevelop this area into one for exploration and play. The area links to the main playground and by redeveloping this area it has substantially increased the space in which pupils can play. This has become even more important due to Covid-19 and the need for social distancing.

Our Solution

We cleared the whole area, removing all the overgrown brambles and thorny bushes to maximise the play space. We removed the old timber trail and bark pathway and then reshaped and levelled the area into a smooth contoured space with a new low level forest trail winding its way through the existing trees.

Following the success of this redevelopment we are now looking to renovate the EYFS area and the Head Zoe ‘is delighted with the improvement to this area’.
